How do I make my WordPress site accessible under my domain without /wordpress?

With the automatic WordPress installation via Plesk, WordPress is installed in the /wordpress subdirectory by default. However, to ensure that your WordPress site can be accessed directly under your domain – i.e. without /wordpress at the end – you can find instructions here on how to move the data from the /wordpress directory to the main /httpdocs directory:

DOMAIN.TLD stands for your domain that is affected.

  1. In the myhosttech customer center under “Server center > Your hosting > Settings > Change resources”, make sure that your domain DOMAIN.TLD still has a free database.
  2. Log in to your Plesk control panel. Make sure that you are no longer logged into the WordPress backend.
  3. Create a new subdomain for your domain DOMAIN.TLD, e.g. clone.DOMAIN.TLD.
  4. On the DOMAIN.TLD website, click on “Clone” for the corresponding WordPress instance.
  5. On the left-hand side, select that you want to clone the WordPress instance to a new subdomain. Enter the previously created subdomain and start the cloning process with “Start”.
  6. Once cloning is complete, you can delete the /wordpress directory.
  7. You now need to remove the old instance in the control panel. To do this, click on “WordPress” on the left , select the old instance (that you want to remove) and click on “Remove”.
  8. As soon as this WordPress instance has been deleted, you can clone the WordPress instance of the subdomain back to the main domain (DOMAIN.TLD).
  9. Once this cloning process is also complete, you can access your WordPress site directly via DOMAIN.TLD, without /wordpress at the end.

Once you have completed all the steps, your WordPress site can be accessed under the normal domain name. You can then delete the subdomain that you used for temporary storage.
